Metalmorphosis is a mirrored water fountain erected by David Černý a Czech sculptor. It was installed in the Whitehall Technology Park in Charlotte, NC. This 14-ton head is made from massive stainless steel layers that rotate 360 degrees and from time to time and align to present a human head. It even has a live webcam installed. David Černý does other metal work, but the Metalmorphosis is one of a kind, much different from his regular metal sculptures.
You know, this made me thinking. These artists are installing monumental sized sculptures like this one in the wrong cities. If this metal head was installed in Downtown Boise, “boom”, it would have quickly redefined Boise. Think about all the tourist attraction we’d get, and the fame the artist would receive. The head could quickly become the icon in the Midwest. Just like Eiffel Tower in Paris, or Space Needle in Seattle, which are artistic sort of architectural objects that redefined their cities forever. Although the Metal head is not as huge as that in Seattle or Paris, it is huge enough for Boise, lets put it that way.
